😎 How I’m keeping my coffee ☕️ warm using the Ember mug

I normally don’t write reviews of products on this blog, but every now and then there comes a product that truly delights me and makes my life just a tiny bit more enjoyable - so I felt like writing a short review of a mug, that keeps my coffee and tea warm...

How I’m keeping my coffee ☕️ warm using the Ember mug

Solving “first world problems” with Ember mug

When I was getting a coffee in Starbucks in the USA this summer, I noticed a new type of mug in their offering. A “smart mug” that has an app... and what it does is this - it keeps your coffee warm.

That’s it. $80 bucks for a mug that keeps your coffee warm for about half an hour. As a gadget guy, I got curious, I watched a review on YouTube and realized this mug was for real... so I decided to get it to really give it a try.

When you work from home and your home office is on the top floor of your house, your drink gets cold quickly...

Yes, I have to go down to the kitchen, brew my coffee and take it up... and by the time I’m back, the coffee is already in a perfect temperature to drink... but when I start working, it gets cold pretty quickly.

Yes, I know that a “cold coffee” is a first world problem...

That’s correct, but these are the tiny details that make your life just a little better. So yes, the $80 dollar mug makes my life nicer because now I get to enjoy my coffee for about 30 minutes or even more... and each sip is perfect.

Each sip is exactly as warm as the first one...

Really enjoying my “smart mug”... and now my wife wants one, too!

My wife was looking at me strangely when I bought it... but after 3 months of having it at home, she’s very often literally stealing it from me to enjoy her coffee more.

If you can afford this gadget and really appreciate a warm cup of coffee or tea, I really recommend the Ember mug.

No, I wasn’t paid to write this. I make my living helping teams get stuff done with Nozbe and not reviewing products but if you get this mug from Amazon, I’ll get a small commission that I will use to buy more audiobooks from Audible :-)

★ Hello, I'm Michael and I have 5 iPads...

We're about to publish the next episode of The Podcast where we talk about the latest Apple event and we discuss the newest iPad Pro... And then Radek asks me about my iPad. And it's not like I have only one:

my iPads

Let's start in order of appearance:

iPad 1 (64GB) - yes we still use a 5-year old iPad. Actually my daughters use it for watching movies and playing games. It's still a great device for both of these purposes.

iPad mini 1 (16GB cellular) I bought for testing iOS7 two years ago. It's running iOS9 today and I still keep it around for testing.

iPad mini 2 (64GB cellular) my wife's iPad of choice. Completely replaced her Kindle. She carries it in her purse and reads all her books on this.

iPad Air (64 GB cellular) my previous iPad. I haven't sold it last year and kept it around as our "household" iPad. Also gaming device for my daughters (when games require the latest iOS).

iPad Air 2 (64GB cellular) my "only" iPad. My main computer. This is where I get my job done.

Optional:

My wife's iPad Air 2 provided by her employer. She very often brings it home when she's teleworking.

Soon:

iPad Pro (128GB cellular) - so I wrote my letter to Santa and this device made spot no 1. I'm totally buying this. Why? More in this weeks's episode of The Podcast

Question: which iPad/iPads do you have?

Friday Readership: No one really likes the Apple iPad?

OK, so this was Apple's week big time. They first announced their best quarter results ever and two days later they launched the new computing/lifestyle device/gadget - the Apple iPad. What it is is just a bigger iPod Touch and folks have been asking questions if this device really makes sense...

Ipad_apple
So here's a roundup of my favorite Apple iPad articles (and at the bottom of everything I'll add my 2 cents):

"It’s about the software, stupid. While all sorts of commentators were focusing on how much Apple’s new $499 iPad tablet computer looks like an oversized iPhone, the key to whether it can be the first multi-function tablet to win wide public acceptance probably lies in whether consumers perceive it as a suitable replacement for a laptop in key scenarios."

So Walt was pretty objective, but most of geeks and gadget reviewers/bloggers didn't like the device:

What's missing from the iPad by TUAW's Mel Martin

While all the final info is not out yet, there were a few major omissions from the iPad hardware. Here's the highly desireable stuff that came out missing: No Camera, No verizon, No notifications, No TV content, No multitasking...

The iPad, much like the iPhone, is completely locked down. The user has no control over what she installs on the hardware, short of accepting exactly what Apple has approved for it...

A lot of people at Gizmodo are psyched about the iPad. Not me! My god, am I underwhelmed by it. It has some absolutely backbreaking failures that will make buying one the last thing I would want to do...

But not all reviews were so bad, some liked it:

Most people won’t yet, but as long as Apple has its base that will buy and use the iPad, they have plenty of time for either themselves or third-party developers to create the killer uses that make the iPad a must-have product for a broader range of people ... there will be no shortage of people willing to splurge on the device just to see what all the fuss is about. They’ll get hooked too.

And I'd like to finalize this post with quote from my favorite NY Tiimes journalist:

"My main message to fanboys is this: it’s too early to draw any conclusions. Apple hasn’t given the thing to any reviewers yet, there are no iPad-only apps yet (there will be), the e-bookstore hasn’t gone online yet, and so on. So hyperventilating is not yet the appropriate reaction.

At the same time, the bashers should be careful, too. As we enter Phase 2, remember how silly you all looked when you all predicted the iPhone’s demise in that period before it went on sale."

What do you think about the iPad? Love it? Hate it? Will you buy it (i.e. vote with your wallet)?

My Productive Computer - Unboxing Apple Macbook Air 2.13 SSD

Today's video will be a little different - I'll be unboxing my brand new Apple Macbook Air 2.13 GHZ 128GB SSD laptop. It's an upgrade from the first generation Macbook Air 1.8 GHZ 64GB SSD.
